The Sonata for Oboe and Piano by Francis Poulenc is one of my least favorite works for oboe. It is also the piece that will open my recital this coming Fall semester. So why perform a piece I do not like? Well, the Poulenc Oboe Sonata is a standard that all oboist must play at some point in their careers. I hope that by performing this work, I will take a step towards liking the work, rather than appreciating and disliking it.
